MKFM Review: The Wizard of Oz at Milton Keynes Theatre

Carly, from the MKFM team, was invited to see The Wizard of Oz at Milton Keynes Theatre, running until Sunday 21st July and here is her full review…

We were lucky to have a lovely summers evening for our trip to MK Theatre. We parked easily outside Hotel La Tour and had a quick drink at Midsummer Tap, where we saw lots of Dorothy outfits and red slippers which got us excited for the show ahead.

The show opened with a cinematic screen which stayed throughout the show which was a first for me at the theatre and really added to create a dramatic effect.

Straight away you are introduced to Toto and his handler which was the most fascinating thing to watch and at some points had us completely transfixed and at other times chuckling away!

Aviva Tulley who played Dorothy stunned the crowd with her rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow however Toto’s wagging tail stole the moment again!

My personal favourite moment was when Glinda the good witch of the north arrived on a pink Vespa in sequins, high heels and a bright pink leather jacket. What a Queen!

Benjamin Yates who played Scarecrow sang If I Only Had a Brain which massively evoked childhood memories of watching the movie at home with my siblings.

Craig Revel Horwood’s voice was amazing, as was his hair and make up! It made me laugh that even his arms and legs were green under his costume. He made a little nod to Len Goodman from Strictly dropping in a “SEVEN” which made the audience laugh.

We had a wonderful evening and know that we will be humming “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” all day at work!

If you get the opportunity to go and see The Wizard of Oz you will be guaranteed to have a brilliant night and a trip down memory lane.
