MKFM REVIEW: Sunday roast at Hotel La Tour

    Jo from MKFM and her family were invited to review Hotel La Tour's new Traditional Roast at their Fourteen Sky Bar and Restaurant and here is her full review...

    On arrival at the prestigious hotel, you can see a lift bringing guests up through the floors. Jumping in the lift with a view, you really appreciate how gorgeous and lucky we are to have this amazing venue on our doorstep.

    Stopping at the 14th floor, you walk out and come to large glass windows showing Milton Keynes off in all its full glory. The sound of a live guitar and singer brought a lovely calm energy, setting the tone for the meal we were about to enjoy. Greeted by the team, we were swiftly seated at a table right beside the long glass pained window overlooking Campbell Park in the sunshine.

    There was three of us, myself, my partner and my daughter who is 8 years old, so we decided to have a nice sharing board which is for two but definitely covered all three of us. Somerset Brie, toasted sourdough, red onion marmalade, hand cut tortilla chips with melted cheese, tomato salsa, deli meats and cornichons, making for the perfect start alongside a refreshing drink. We love sharing pick food and really appreciated the view from our table. With the sharing board priced at £19.50, we thought this was really reasonable too. I can imagine coming back with my girlfriends, having a nice crisp white wine and enjoying a sharing board and a good natter!

    We had kicked off with some soft drinks, as it was a warm spring day, but after some suggestions from our attentive waitress, we went for some nice cocktails which were delicious and included mocktails too, which our 8 year old, was ecstatic about. Flavours in the drinks really showcased the standard of cocktail made available at Hotel La Tour. The two cocktails in the the pictures are the “Driving me loco” a non-alcoholic cocktail, and we went with the waitresses recommendation of the “What a melon” vodka based watermelon cocktail. You could certainly see another return for a cocktail tasting day on the cards after this too!

    Whilst waiting for our mains, we had the pleasure of enjoying the live entertainment, and looking at all the beautiful features the restaurant shares, giving loads to talk about and look at whilst eagerly awaiting our dinners. We all ordered the roast sirloin of Beef, which was also available on the children’s menu. Priced at £25 for the adult portions, and £10 for the children, these are very generous portions and arrived nicely timed after our starters.

    The tender beef was served with thyme gravy, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes which were perfectly crisp, broccoli, carrots and baby corn, and the taste was just divine. We are avid lovers of gravy and had two nicely presented pots served to enjoy some extra over the beef and roasties. We were not expecting the portion sizes we were served, and just about finished it all!

    Of course, after being blown away by our starters and mains, we decided to indulge in desserts and went for the Berry Eton Mess along with the Salted caramel cheesecake, honeycomb! Presented also with a “Welcome MKFM” side dessert, the service and attention to detail we received, would make this very recommendable for anyone organising a special occasion, trusting the amazing staff, will get it perfect! Both desserts were also priced under £10 too!

    Hotel La Tour is an absolute must on a Sunday afternoon, and with the prices so remarkable for the experience, service and standard of food, we would highly recommend.
