MKFM Review: The Comedy Prime Cut at The Venue

Carly from the MKFM Team was invited along to The Comedy Cow for their Comedy Prime Cut. Here is her review...

    The experience

Honestly I couldn't recommend a night out more! This was the best way to spend a Friday night in January. We did not stop laughing the whole night it really was brilliant!

As we arrived we were welcomed by the talented Rich Baxter singing in the foyer. This was my first time at The Venue and I was blown away at what a fab hidden gem it is in Milton Keynes. It was the perfect space for a comedy night and clearly we weren't the only ones who thought so as every seat was filled. The bar is really well stocked and drinks reasonably priced and parking was free outside The Venue. Along with the really well priced tickets that The Comedy Cow offers this is a night out that isn't going to break the bank.

Andrew Bird was the MC for the night and he struck gold as he got chatting to a couple in the front row from Buckingham. Described later as a "Gift" by the other comedians this couple without being prompted gave their life story away and made it easy for Andrew to make gag after gag. He introduced us to the line up of comics, encouraged us to laugh out loud, let us know when the two intervals were, the night flowed really nicely although he did joke that we could be tucked up in bed by 11pm which we were!

Javier Jarquin was the first comedian a New Zealander living over here. As well as lots of immigration jokes he spoke about his marriage and his family. He joked a lot about men and never being able to get anything right at home. He was great at accents and his take on the South African accent saying how no matter how nice the conversation it can come cross as menacing in that accent made everyone laugh out loud!

Kathryn Mather entertained us next in contrast she joked about Speed Dating and Hen Do's and why Margaret down the road is cross because she still isn't married!

Scott Bennett was the headline act and he pulled out joke after joke not really allowing for you to catch your breath in between! He was the same age as me and was joking about what it's like being a grown up in 2025. He joked that he's had to turn his smart meter to face the wall, how ring doorbells now allow you to watch burglars rob your house and how he watches the footage from his doorbell more than he does TV!

The Comedy Cows next event is on the 28th February at The Venue in Walnut Tree if you are lucky enough to get tickets I promise you will have the best time!
