MKFM's Meet of MK has successful night at The Italian Sul Lago in Milton Keynes

MKFM's monthly networking event, the Meet of MK, was hosted at The Italian Sul Lago last night (25/07), with a great turnout of guests and an outstanding view overlooking Furzton Lake.

The Meet of MK, sponsored by Facilities Management Solutions, gives guests the chance to network with like-minded businesses and organisations around the city, hosted at different venues across the city, allowing guests to experience a variety of destinations in Milton Keynes. The event sees returning attendees and new faces of local businesses, charities and organisations connecting in a relaxed environment on the last Thursday of every month.

Yesterday, Thursday 25th July, guests arrived at The Italian Sul Lago, a beautiful local restaurant and venue which overlooks Furzton Lake. In the relaxing setting, guests had the opportunity to meet other like-minded businesspeople from across Milton Keynes in a laid-back environment, enjoying drinks and the amazing dishes The Italian Sul Lago has to offer.

Later in the evening, the event saw a few guest speakers, who shared some information about the current things happening across the city and some information on what they had to offer as a business and/or charity.

Matt from Facilities Management Solutions (FMS), the sponsors of the Meet of MK, gave us an insight into what they offer as a business and the steps they have undertake to give back to the local community. Matt brought to light the effort the FMS team made in May when they cycled the distance from MK to Camber Sands (over 140 miles), a beach in East Sussex, to support local charity Harry’s Rainbow, raising over £1,200. The charity sends bereaved families and children to Camber Sands to give them the space to grieve and heal.

Lucy Davis from Camphill MK Communities, a non-profit organisation in MK, took the mic to share details on what they provide at Camphill and the organisations future plans, one of them being an expansion. Camphill intend on building 60 new bedrooms, which will all be accessible, offering independence, with a still structure already up their Pennyland location.

Charlotte from Medical Detection Dogs, a local charity, educated guests on what it is exactly that they do. Charlotte said, “Our dogs save lives. We quite literally take your best friend and teach them to save lives.” The dogs at the charity are trained to detect possible dangers to their owners. An example Charlotte gave was dogs being able to detect a teaspoon of sugar in two Olympic sized swimming pools. She invited attendees to visit the centre and also informed them of the opportunities available to support.

Louise from Morgan’s Rentals spoke about how the agency sets itself aside from others in the market, one of them being the service of matching tenants to landlords and offering properties that suit the wants and standards of tenants. She mentioned that as an agency they are willing to take on tenants who have rental properties and who are not happy with their agent, making sure it is a smooth transition.

Dr Susan Izadkhasti spoke about women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths). She spoke about how many opportunities there are in STEM and the importance of young girls and people exploring their options. Dr Izadkhasti shared the event MK Innovates STEM Festival, taking place at Unity Place, October 24-25.

The final speaker was Emily, General Manager of The Italian Sul Lago, shedding light on what the restaurant and venue has to offer local people. Emily said, “We want to take this opportunity to show off what we can do – food, hospitality, we have an amazing team. If you’ve got a Christmas event coming up, a wedding, an anniversary or a wake, whatever it is, we can host it. The beauty of being an independent business is it’s literally me so if you want to do a large event, come to me, lets get a coffee and discuss!” Emily made it clear that The Italian Sul Lago offers more than just amazing food and invites all to contact them for any enquiries, no matter how extravagant.

The next Meet of MK will be hosted at Hotel La Tour, on Thursday 29th July, from 5pm - 8pm. This will be the Meet of MK End of Summer Party, so don’t miss out!

Entry is £12.50 + VAT and free for current MKFM clients and Business Club members. If you are interested in becoming an MKFM client or Business Club member please email jo.ronan@mkfm.com
