M1 re-opens after lorry overturns

The M1 was left closed for most of the day on Wednesday after a lorry overturned shortly before 8am.

Officials closed the road southbound between J15A at Northampton Services and J16 for Daventry.

Two lanes were also closed on the northbound carriageway following a full closure earlier in the day.

The road has now fully re-opened in both directions.

Northants Police and emergency services were in attendance being assisted by National Highways Traffic Officers.

UPDATE: Driver walks away with 'minor hand injuries' as M1 remains closed after lorry overturns

National Highways Duty Operations Manager, Jo Dean said: "This is a complex incident and we’re working hard to get the affected part of the M1 southbound back open to motorists as soon as it is safe to do so."

"We’re still working at scene alongside specialist recovery teams to remove the lorry and while that process continues, we’d advise motorists to avoid using the M1 southbound while we deal with the incident. We’d like to thank people for their patience while we carry out this work."

A diversion route was in place for drivers via the A43/A5123/A5076/A4500.

Motorists travelling travelling southbound were told to follow the hollow square diversion symbol.
