A pledge to break the cycle of abuse, poverty and neglect for women and girls in Milton Keynes, is one mission for a determined and dedicated local voluntary group.
Soroptimist International marks its Centenary year of the global women’s movement, and the MK branch (SI:MK) plans a year of projects and action that will change lives of women and girls in the city for the better.
The group has linked with four local front-line charities The British Red Cross, Works for Us, MK ACT and YMCA, to empower women across Milton Keynes through support, training and resources.
SI:MK will be working with MK ACT’s domestic violence intervention service, on a training programme aimed at empowering teenage girls to escape the trap of relationship abuse.
SI:MK plans to celebrate the 100th birthday of the global movement with a calendar of events, including highlighting 'invisible' women heroes of inspirational work in the city; pledging to make 2021 the year of kind and caring acts; hosting a regional conference, an arts and crafts event; a music event and planting trees of hope for the future.
