Join Transitions UK and The Salvation Army on 27th and 28th November 2020, by Sleeping Out to Help Out.
This November we are raising much needed funds and awareness for homelessness.
Families, bubbles and groups of up to six are invited to get together and sleep outside on the evening of Friday 27th and Saturday 28th November, to raise money for the work The Salvation Army and Transitions UK does to support people experiencing homelessness.
Gather together your supplies, sleeping bags, cardboard, blankets and anything else you can find to sleep under the stars for one night, whilst raising sponsorship money for these wonderful charities and the work they do.
Don’t worry if you don’t have access to a safe outside area to take part, use whatever you have, a living room/kitchen floor, your business premises, even your local church, so long as social distancing is adhered to you can #SleepOut2HelpOut anywhere!
If you would like to help in this way but can’t make that date, please get in touch with Soraia Edwards on 07719956755 or at Soraia.edwards@transitionsuk.org to arrange your own separate date.
In recent times everyone has struggled, however many of us still have a roof over our heads, comfortable beds, plenty of food and contact with our close ones. So many people in the UK do not have any of this and find themselves in awful situations. We have partnered with The Salvation Army, to raise money for those people.
Transitions UK provide support and care to disadvantaged young people in the UK, many of which have and do struggle with homelessness for various reasons. We are committed to providing the care and support they need to stop this from happening, this includes mentorship, therapy, workshops, skills training and much more, our young people need their communities and the support we can offer is detrimental to their futures.
The Salvation Army Buckingham Corps takes a tailored approach to supporting those experiencing - or at risk of - homelessness. We support, coach and advocate to get good, long-term outcomes for our clients and their families, partnering with a range of other agencies and groups in the local community. Our support can range from a quick phone conversation to ongoing support over several years. In the past two years, The Salvation Army Buckingham Corps has assisted over 300 vulnerable individuals and families to overcome difficulties and move towards a better life.
This event is being held in memory of Sue Yeomans, a friend and admirer of The Salvation Army. Sue was a well-loved and passionate member of her community, and was adept at building and sustaining community networks across diverse ranges of people.
‘Sue Yeomans moved to Buckingham 4 years ago and quickly became involved in many community projects. She counted herself to be very lucky in having a good life and loving family and was passionate in her wish that people less fortunate and vulnerable, particularly children and young people, should also be given chances to have happy and fulfilling lives. She admired the work of the Salvation Army from a young age influenced by our parents and other family members. Both these charities would be very dear to her heart so any support in her memory would be greatly appreciate.’ – Family of Sue Yeomans
