Mrs D was back at MK Theatre last night to see The Drifters Girl and here is her review...
A great story about the Drifters that I am sure not many people know. The Drifters may have been the stars, but she was the Boss who took them to stardom.
Their story is about Faye Treadwell (The Drifters Girl), who was the driver of The Drifters success alongside her husband George Treadman. The story takes us through the struggles she had being a woman, a black woman in the music business, but without her sharp mind and ideas they probably wouldn’t have been the group we all remember and love.
The Drifters is a name of a group, and for her that what was important not the people that made up the group just like a sports team. The group had so many different lead singers and members, it seemed like a revolving door at times.
This production is performed by just 6 cast members and its seamless they way they transform into different characters. Their voices and dance moves were incredible. Special mention of Loren Anderson who played Faye Treadwell, wow, her voice was amazing, and Ethan Davis who was covering as a drifter and other funny characters, he made me laugh throughout and he can sing!
This performance was fantastic, on a stage with simple sets, featuring some iconic songs such as Come on over to my place, Sweets for my sweet, Under the Boardwalk, Kissin’ in the back row of the movies, Stand by me and many more.
If you are looking for something happy and fun to give you memories of years ago, then I recommend going to see this and at the end of the performance you get chance to get out of your seat and sing and dance along to a medley of epic numbers. Even if you don’t remember the Drifters, you will know their songs and won’t be able to stop yourself singing along.
