Mrs. D was back at MK Theatre last night to see Noises Off and here is her review...
As I arrived at MK theatre last night, I wasn’t sure what to expect apart from a comedy with the legend that is Matthew Kelly, who is sitting in the audience at the beginning of the show.
The play is structured in three separate parts; act one gives us the first of these, as it starts to give a flavour and sets the tone for the rest of the play.
When the curtain falls for the interval, we have met the characters gracing the stage for the production of ‘Nothing On’, with an awful dress rehearsal which is full of chaos.
Act two begins by taking us behind the scenes of the action, where every type of issue that can arise does, like jealous rages, missing characters and not being prepared to put on the show. We see the heightened emotions and pure bedlam taking place that we usually don’t see. This act for me, was the funniest of all.
Finally act three shows us their final performance at the end of the company’s tour and the less said about this the better.
I don’t think you could even make up what you see! It's far from the awful dress rehearsal that you saw in act one.
Although difficult to keep up at times it is full of energy and comedy gold.
Liza Goddard played the very quirky Dotty, with fabulous one liners and Simon Coates was the rather clueless Frederick Fellowes, who always wanted to understand why the script said things that he didn’t get.
Every single actor had their own standout moments but also came together amazingly, making the mistakes (purposely) look effortless.
This is great comedy to take you away from everyday life for a couple of hours! See it while you can!
