I Should Be So Lucky is at MK Theatre until Saturday 9th March
I was granted the opportunity to watch "I Should Be So Lucky" at the Milton Keynes Theatre. As someone who has never seen a musical before, I was captivated by it. I Should Be So Lucky is about family, friendship, and being present when it counts the most. Slipping into your summer sandals, putting on your shades, and getting lost in this whirlwind of sun-kissed adventures and famous pop classics, which includes ten number one singles and over thirty era-defining songs from the Hit Factory.
The actors gave outstanding performances, with each actor adding complexity and authenticity to their characters. The actors, each with their different personalities and origins, are portrayed with such passion and depth that audience members are drawn into the deliberations, experiencing conflicting emotions such as delight, laughing, and joy.
Debbie Isitt, a stage, and screen legend, expertly transports the audience into the bright, colourful set, making them anxious to see what thrilling segment comes on next. The attention to detail is incredible, creating an environment that is both funny and nervous, with people eager to know what happens next. This gleaming design is essential to the plot, giving viewers the impression that they are in the performance.
The design complements the set, adding depth to the production. It expertly alters light to enhance the musical's emotional environment, using shadows and lights to underscore moments of excitement, uncertainty, and surprise. The use of lighting not only elevates the mood but also acts as a subtle guidance. My favourite part of the show was when Ella went on vacation. The entire set in Istanbul was extremely bright and fascinating. The dancing and singing piqued my interest the most.
Jason Gilkison's incredible choreography took my breath away; it was flawlessly coordinated and made my heart sing with excitement. The choreography lends a sense of authenticity and urgency.
In all, "I Should Be So Lucky" at MK Theatre is a remarkable production that strikes apart not just for its tremendous performances, but also for the flawless integration of set, lighting, dance, singing, and sound.
These aspects combine to produce an immersive and provocative experience, causing the stage version of the famous musical an essential ticket for both theatre fans and beginners.
