MKFM Review: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical at Milton Keynes Theatre

Irish Jo from the MKFM team took her family to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical at Milton Keynes Theatre and here is her review...

I was so excited to see this show as I knew it would be a family favourite over the half-term break this week. On arrival to MK Theatre, all the branded Charlie & the Chocolate Factory merchandise had my daughter Laila and her best friend Lana so excited! There was hot chocolate with accompanying donuts meaning the smell on arrival on Friday for the press night, set the tone straight away!

Kids bring such excitement and a buzz to a show like that, and you could hear all the very excited giggles from children before we took our seats, as if one of them could be the owner of the golden ticket themselves!

All your favourite moments from the Roald Dahl book, are brought together so brilliantly with Charlie, played by Noah Walton, starting off the show with a bang, opening with Your Trash is my Treasure.

The show follows each child who has been lucky enough to find a golden ticket. All were portrayed as being so underserving until Charlie, from a disadvantaged background but the most grateful, finds his magic ticket and all are invited to the factory for a day out!

The second half of the show just gets better and better. I still have no idea how they pulled all the scenes together on stage, as we watched the fate of each golden ticket holder.

The show really brought your imagination alive and had us all captivated from start to finish!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical runs until the 5th March 2023 at Milton Keynes Theatre – with an advisory age of 7+ for children – great treat for this week off school!
