During Black History Month in October 2023, eleven black ladies were named Black female Pioneers. Amongst this group of pioneers one will be named ‘The Black Female Pioneer of the Year 2024’.
According to founder and organiser, Nana Oguntola, the event is a response to the need to highlight and celebrate the work and contributions of black individuals, businesses and organisations in the city.
‘I felt there was not adequate representation and presence in awards events and I could see some of the excellent work people who are not in the mainstream or large enough are doing in the city and I wanted to highlight this and also use the platform to motivate encourage and inspire all of us now and for the future’.
