Local young people's charity has launched a new campaign

Local charity Transitions UK has launched a "Beat It" campaign providing activities for families to take part in at home.

Transitions UK is a charity working in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London with the sole purpose of improving the lives of young people.

The charity runs programmes throughout the year, each with a specific focus. The Aspire programme, for example, works with vulnerable young people to prevent criminal exploitation. Another, the Attain programme, works with young people leaving the care system and their integration into society. Given that most of these programmes are delivered by face-to-face mentoring, events and skills training, these, and the other programmes run by Transitions UK are at risk due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

In response to this threat, Transitions UK has launched the BEAT IT campaign – encouraging members of the public to take part in challenges, events and activities from their homes throughout the UK lockdown, and beyond.

Ron Overton, founder and CEO, said: “We were initially very worried about our young people during this time – our face-to-face work with them is so important.  We’re embracing technology and keeping in touch with our young people via Whatsapp and video calling, and the Beat It campaign will help us raise funds to keep this vital work going.”

The campaign will provide a number of free activities for families to take part in at home – some of which will physical to make sure families put their “one exercise per day” to good use! Others will be more relaxed and can be included in home schooling activities.

Ron continued: “We’re also on the look out for businesses who want to take part in our biggest challenge – the Home Arrest Jailbreak!  Working from home has never been tougher!  Our jailbreak events are one of our biggest fund raisers, and we’re hoping that with more people working from home, this April’s challenge will be our biggest yet.”
