Russell Martin revealed his pride after MK Dons secured their first victory in 13 games.
The Dons put an end to their winless league run this past weekend courtesy of a 1-0 triumph over Oxford United at Stadium MK.
It was Joe Mason’s second-half strike which proved to be the difference, as Martin picked up his first league success as manager and the Dons secured a vital three points in their quest to move out of the bottom three.
“I didn't have much to say to them apart from well done,” a delighted Martin said in his post-match press conference. “I’m extremely proud and happy, and obviously relieved.
“It has been coming but I'm just so proud of the players. It takes a lot of courage, conviction and belief to play the way we are, in the position we are in and against a team who are so many games unbeaten – it is a testament to the characters we have.
“We were superb. There was loads of quality involved. I enjoyed watching it - maybe not for the last five minutes, but I enjoyed most of it. I don't think Lee has had a save to make.
“The back four were excellent. Regan [Poole] came in last week and was excellent again today. Joe Walsh is consistent, Lewie [Dean Lewington] is just Lewie and Callum [Brittain], who might not have done so much eye-catching stuff, did exactly what we were asking him to do.
“If we can get better in the final third, we could have had two or three. That would have been the icing on the cake. That's where we need to get to, scoring that second goal and it's job done.”
He continued: “We're not at home now for a few weeks. We have two tough away games and the Christmas period, which is busy and tough anyway.
"To get this result today, it sends everyone home in a positive frame of mind, and gives people belief in what we're doing.”

Russell Martin's MK Dons will look to stretch their unbeaten run to four games when they take on Gillingham at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium this Saturday, kick-off 1pm.
