Milton Keynes Dons have bolstered their squad ahead of the 2024-25 season with centre back Laurence Maguire.

Maguire, 27, joins the Dons on a free transfer after his contract with Chesterfield expires this summer.

The defender, however, did not most recently play for the National League champions, having spent last year out on loan with Crawley Town.

Featuring in 39 matches across all competitions for Crawley, including the two fateful playoff semifinals against the Dons, Maguire helped guide the club to promotion to League One.

With over 200 professional appearances under his belt, Maguire will provide the Dons with plenty of experience and his success in League Two last time out should help strengthen Mike Williamson's team at the back.

Maguire joins fellow centre back Luke Offord as the latest defender to join the club, with the pair having faced each other in the recent League Two playoff final at Wembley Stadium.

On joining the Dons, Laurence commented: "It's been fabulous really, it's something that as soon as I spoke to the manager I wanted to get done as soon as possible, it's been a whirlwind over the last three weeks after the playoff final, but yeah I'm so delighted to get it done and be at this fantastic football club."

Maguire spoke about himself as a player, saying: "I'm first and foremost a defender, I like to keep clean sheets, but obviously coming into this club I'd like to say I'm a possession-based centre-half."

"I'm obviously coming from Crawley and it's a very similar style of play so I'm hoping I can fit straight in."

On his hopes for the season, he added: "I had a meeting with Mike last week and we had a really positive chat about the way we want to play and the intention of what we want to do this year, there's only one target and that is to get promoted."

Head Coach Mike Williamson said: "Laurence is a hugely talented defender."

"As a centre-back, he possesses all the physical qualities you need to succeed at this level."

He concluded: "He's also very composed on the ball with a sharp footballing brain. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in an MK Dons shirt."
