MK Dons announce the signing of new player Liam Kelly

MK Dons are thrilled to announce the signing of Liam Kelly for an undisclosed fee from Crawley Town.

The central midfielder is Mike Williamson’s seventh signing so far, following names such as Tommy Leigh and Joe Pritchard.

Kelly signed his first professional contract with Reading in November 2013, before making a name for himself in the Republic of Ireland under-19 squad, where he scored a fantastic goal from the halfway line.

The 28-year-old joins the Dons after a successful season with Crawley Town, where he played 40 matches and produced 19 goal contributions, two of which were in the 2-0 Play-Off triumph at Wembley Stadium as Crawley subsequently won promotion to League One.

As preparations begin for the upcoming campaign, Kelly discusses his move to Stadium MK “It's been in the works for a while. When I first heard about it, I've been excited to try and get it done.

“The project that's building under the gaffer here is clear to see from the outside even when playing against MK Dons last season. It's a project that I was looking forward to getting on board with when I first heard about it so I'm delighted to get it done.”

Reflecting on his recent achievements Kelly said, “I had an unbelievable season last year, not just me personally but as a team to get promotion. Hopefully, I can use that experience.”

He continued, “Obviously, last year the Club got close to doing it so hopefully with the learning that has come from that and both experiences combined, we can come together and have a really good season.”

Kelly concluded with, “The ambition of the Club is simple, to get promoted, but it comes from us players to dig in and show why we should be getting promoted.”

The midfielder shared one final message before meeting the Dons supporters during the upcoming campaign:

“Thank you for welcoming me, I look forward to seeing you throughout the season and hopefully giving you all a special season."

On the seventh signing of the summer, Mike Williamson had this to say “Kelly is another exciting addition to our team. We’ve witnessed first-hand how impactful he can be on the field and his creativity is something that can only strengthen us. That, paired with his experiences, aligns perfectly for what we’re looking to achieve.”

A creative midfielder, Kelly is bound to be an exciting addition to MK Dons as he joins the team during the early stages of pre-season training ahead of the 2024/25 season.
