People caught littering by the wardens can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of £125.
Back in January, 5 new enforcement officers were appointed with powers to issue offenders with on-the-spot fines.
The wardens are able to issue FPNs for dog fouling under the Public Space Protection Order and for those under 18 who are caught littering, letters will be written to their parents/guardians to educate them on environmental issues.
Since the launch of the new warden roles, 2,725 fines have been given out to litterers across Milton Keynes.
The Labour/Liberal Democrat Council have released figures reporting a 21.26% decrease in fly-tipping compared with 2020/21.
Labour Councillor Lauren Townsend, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said: “Littering and fly-tipping are completely unacceptable. They’re anti-social, dangerous, and damaging offences. We want Milton Keynes to look nice and be safe, so we’re committed to this zero-tolerance approach.”
The Labour/Liberal Democrat administration has also installed CCTV in fly-tipping hotspots and introduced same day booking at the tips, as well as the option to reschedule bookings, making it easier than ever to properly dispose of waste.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Trendall, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, added: “We hear what residents have been saying about keeping Milton Keynes tidy, which is why our budget invests in what people care about – maintaining weekly residual waste collections, cracking down on fly-tipping and tackling rats and other pests.”
“Together with our clamp down on littering and fly-tipping, we’re working to keep Milton Keynes clean and green.”
