Leader of Milton Keynes Council confirms three new coronavirus testing sites will open soon

Following MKFM's exclusive announcement yesterday, Cllr Pete Marland has confirmed that three new coronavirus testing sites will be opening in Milton Keynes.

MKFM exclusively revealed that the exact locations of the sites are still being finalised, but they are likely to be in the north, centre and south of the city and have good transport links.

In today's daily update, Cllr Marland addressed the latest coronavirus figures for Milton Keynes stating that there have been 49 positive cases in the past two weeks, with the current number of cases standing at 9.6 per 100,000 people.

He said the figures are an increase from last week, and "continues the trend of small but rising infection rates here in Milton Keynes."

Cllr Marland stressed that "while the overall numbers are still low, they are higher than we would like them to be, so there is no room for complacency."

The Council Leader continued to mention how the best and fastest way to access a coronavirus test is from the drive-thru facility in Central Milton Keynes which is booked online. "While home testing kits are helpful, " he added, "there is currently a delay in them being dispatched and the processing of results."

There is also a concern locally that the information provided to the test and trace system is often poor, hampering efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus in the city.

As a result, three more testing sites will be opening in Milton Keynes and MKFM will provide more information on this as we get it.
