A care home resident from Marston Moretaine had her 'wish come true' after she got to feed the elephants at Whipsnade Zoo.

An 87-year-old resident from Blakelands Lodge in Marston Moretaine had her 'wish come true' thanks to Whipsnade Zoo.

Blakelands Lodge Care Home in Marston Moretaine fundraised for the trip telling BBC News that they wanted to do 'something nice' for the resident who reportedly spends a lot of time in her room.

The care home say Mrs Day counted down for the trip on her elephant-themed calendar.

"We made her wish come true which was to see a elephant but little did our lovely lady know that we purchased a elephant feeding experience for her! But not just that we even surprised her with both her sons being there to witness the amazing experience," A spokesperson for Blakelands Lodge Care Home said.

"Our special lady got to go out with Sam and Carla not only did she see elephants but we was lucky enough to visit the other animals!

"We want to say a massive thankyou to the amazing staff at Whipsnade Zoo for making her day extra special, we was made to feel so welcome not only did our lovely lady get to feed a elephant but the staff let us stay longer to talk about all the elephants we all honestly had the best day and what an experience to be so close to the elephants."

What a very special day for one of our lovely residents today! We made her wish come true which was to see a elephant...
