The wakeboarding facility at Willen Lake has closed today (1/11) due to it becoming a loss-making activity for the Parks Trust.

It has today been announced that wakeboarding will no longer be on offer at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes.

The activity which has been named as 'niche' appeals to low numbers of local people, according to a post made by a spokesperson earlier today.

The Parks Trust state that the closure of the activity will allow for extra availability for more popular activities.

A spokesperson explained: "After a carefully considered review, we have decided to close our wakeboarding facility from today. Although it’s a fantastic sport that attracts a passionate following, wakeboarding is a niche activity that appeals to relatively low numbers of local people.

"As a result, it has been loss-making for us over the past few years. This change will free up around one third of the south lake which will be used to provide extra availability for popular activities such as boat hire, open water swimming and stand up paddleboarding."
