Women's Euro expected to boost Milton Keynes economy by over £5million

It is estimated that the Women's Euro could provide Milton Keynes with a boost of over £5 million to the local economy.

Milton Keynes is one of nine cities sitting front and centre hosting one of the biggest women’s European sport event in history.

Four games of the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 are being held at Stadium MK, including an all-important Semi-Final game.

Destination MK, the official tourism service for Milton Keynes, is estimating that the women's euro's could deliver over £5 million to the local economy from guests, visitors and fans.

"But more importantly than the money is the boost that it brings in terms of the positive awareness of what a fantastic city we are," chief executive, Ian Stuart told MKFM. "In this year when the HRH the Queen awarded us ‘city status’, it will provide a massive springboard not only for women's football and women's involvement in sport in the city and the surrounding area, but will galvanise opinions around what a great place we are to visit and the huge variety of things to do for families.

He continued: "It will highlight our green space, our waterways and the positive and forward looking community which thrives in this most modern of European cities. One of the fastest growing areas in Europe we are now in the top 20 in terms of population in the UK, only 40 minutes from London, 30 minutes to Luton airport and with the growth planned, this city built for life, will be one of the major UK cities in the future.

"We are so proud to be hosting 4 games from the Women's euro's, showcasing the very best of what Milton Keynes has to offer and welcoming fans from Finland, Denmark, Spain, Germany and as far afield as the USA... who knows which teams will be in the semi final at the superb Stadium MK on the 27th July!"

Spain vs Finland at Stadium MK last week, broke records. 16,819 attended the game, making it the biggest-ever crowd for a UEFA Women’s EURO group-stage match not involving a host nation.
