Two secondary schools in Milton Keynes are set to receive building upgrades following funding from the government.
859 academies, sixth-form colleges and voluntary aided schools across the country are set to receive a share of £456 million from the Condition Improvement Fund, with over 1,000 projects selected.
The new investment will upgrade and improve school and college facilities, providing pupils with safer and warmer classrooms, and more energy efficient school buildings.
The funding will cover a deck replacement and roof refurbishment project at Denbigh School in Milton Keynes South, as well as work at roof refurbishment Ousedale School in Milton Keynes North.
Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “I've been flagging this issue with Ministers for a while now so I'm delighted the Government has provided funding for a roof refurbishment at Ousedale.
"Ousedale is a fantastic school and I visit regularly to meet with students and the headteacher and we need to ensure we invest in our schools so our young people have the facilities they need to study effectively and succeed."
Minister for the School System, Baroness Diana Barran MBE, commented: “Our Condition Improvement Fund has already completed over ten thousand projects, making a difference to pupils and teachers across the country. These projects help to create safer learning environments that make a difference to the quality of education for pupils.
“It’s hugely important that every school has access to high-quality learning facilities and these funding allocations will make sure that responsible bodies can start to plan ahead and get projects started to replace roofs, boilers and windows – so pupils and teachers can learn and work in a comfortable space.”
Commenting on the news for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart MP said: “I welcome the news that the Conservative Government is investing an additional £456 million into school buildings across the country, delivering over 1,000 building improvement projects, including at Denbigh School to undertake deck replacements and roof refurbishments to their Sports Hall.
“Every school should have access to high-quality facilities and this investment will help to deliver this, ensuring every pupil can develop the skills they need for their careers as we grow the economy.”
