The football world has been left stunned following the news of the death of former MK Dons defender George Baldock.
The popular star, who played 104 times for the Dons in a glittering career that included spells at Oxford United, Northampton Town and Sheffield United, was found dead in a swimming pool at his home in Glyfada, near Athens, Greece.
The player recently joined Greek side Panathinaikos. He has also appeared for the Greek national side, qualifying through his grandmother.
Football players, clubs and fans across Europe have paid tribute to George.
Harry Maguire of Manchester United, former Sheffield teammate Dean Henderson, Sheffield United, Oxford United, Northampton Town and MK Dons have all left messages on social media, among hundreds from supporters.
MK Dons’ message says: “We are deeply devastated and saddened to learn about the shocking news of former Academy graduate and MK Dons player, George Baldock.
"Everyone affiliated with MK Dons shares a great love for George, Sam and the Baldock family, and we would like to share our sincerest condolences during these awful times. You will always be one of our own, George."
And Northampton Town wrote: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former loanee George Baldock at the tragically young age of 31. Sending our sincerest condolences to George’s family and friends."
The English Football League commented: "The EFL is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of George Baldock, a player who made a lasting impact with spells across the league at Sheffield United, Oxford United, Northampton Town and MK Dons.
"Our thoughts are with his family, friends and former colleagues."
