Tier and Santander join forces with shared e-bike scheme

TIER, the world’s largest shared micro-mobility operator, has added 120 e-bikes to the Santander Cycles MK bike share scheme.

The bikes, featuring Santander Edge branding, can be found across the city.

The TIER e-bikes feature a top speed of 15mph and a maximum range of 25 miles per charge. The bikes are equipped with front and rear lights, powerful brakes and a front mounted basket, making them ideal for longer-journeys or when users are carrying a bag with them.

The e-bikes will be available to rent through both the TIER app and through the existing Santander cycles branded nextbike by TIER app. TIER powers the Santander Cycles MK scheme through its nextbike by TIER brand.

Unlike the pedal bikes, the e-bikes are dockless, so can be deployed in more areas across Milton Keynes. Users can find and unlock the bikes in either app. When ending their ride users must make sure they are not in a ‘no parking’ zone, marked in red on the in-app map.

The Santander Edge cycles by TIER are equipped with a steel cable lock which users must insert into the rear wheel at the end of their ride. This prevents unauthorised use and ensure parked vehicles remain where they are left.

Jessica Hall, Head of Public Policy - UK, commented: “ With the introduction of e-bikes to Milton Keynes alongside e-scooters and push bikes residents can choose from the form of transport which best matches their journey in the city. E-bikes are perfect for longer journeys or trips where riders are carrying a lot of stuff or where you need to arrive looking fresh. The Santander Edge cycles by TIER make it even easier to choose to leave the car at home.”

Dan Sherwood, Director of Marketing, Santander UK added, “We’re delighted to see the addition of TIER e-bikes to the Santander Cycles MK fleet. They will provide even more opportunities for people to use bikes in their journeys in and around the city and will be available from a range of locations including our new Santander campus at Unity Place.”

Milton Keynes City Councils Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Sustainability, Cllr Jennifer Wilson-Marklew said: “We’re always ready to welcome new schemes that encourage sustainable travel and make it easier for people to get around. This is another step in the right direction as our city adds more options for convenient, affordable and environmentally-friendly alternatives for short-distance journeys.”
