It has been confirmed that Tesco is set to replace Budgens in Stony Stratford after it suddenly closed last year.
In November 2022, shoppers were left confused following the sudden closure of Budgens on Cofferidge Close, Stony Stratford, with residents reporting that the locks had been changed on the property.
Now, Stony Stratford Town Council has announced that a Tesco store will be opening in its place.
The new store is set to open on 23rd February.
"We have been informed by CBRE, the managing agents that Tesco will be opening (in the former Budgens unit) in Cofferidge Close on Saturday 25th February 2023," a Town Council spokesperson announced.
The Town Council has also said that currently they do not have any further information but they will release it as it comes.
The store closure comes a few years after a petition was launched by residents, urging Budgens to 'clean up its act' or leave the town. It was given a one star food hygiene rating in June 2019 by Milton Keynes Council, as reported by MKFM.
As well as the hygiene rating, residents complained that the store was 'filthy', had 'empty shelves' and the 'poor staff' were forced to dress up like they were 'about to go on a hiking expedition to the arctic everyday' due to the temperatures in the shop.
