The company behind the popular delivery robots has 'paused' services with Tesco Express stores in a bid to add more options and faster delivery times.
Since 2018, Starship delivery robots have been serving residents in Milton Keynes, delivering shopping from local stores as well as takeaways and more.
In 2020, it was announced that the robots would be able to deliver from Tesco express stores. Now, the company has announced that it has put a pause to its Tesco Express deliveries in a move which they hope will allow more options and faster delivery times.
Starship say that the robots are 'busier than ever' and that its project with the supermarket giant Tesco has been a success. Despite this, deliveries from Tesco Express were paused on April 30th to allow the company to focus on working with Booker, which is part of the Tesco group.
A spokesperson for Starship said that the news means there will be more grocery stores to choose from within the app. The spokesperson told Bucks Live: "Since we added Tesco to our offering, we’ve been staggered by the strength of demand. Today our robots are busier than ever, and we’re happy to report that our first project with Tesco has been a success.
"Accordingly, we’re looking forward to the next phase of our journey and we want to share a service update. On April 30th, we will pause deliveries from Tesco Express stores.
"This will allow us to focus on working with Booker (part of the Tesco Group). Booker works with retailers such as Londis, Budgens and Premier, and we plan on offering delivery from some of these retailers later this month. Aside from our popular Co-op offering, we know this will be an inconvenience for customers who enjoy shopping with Tesco Express.
"But this news means that soon there will be more grocery stores to choose from in our app and, in many cases, faster delivery times from store to door. We can’t thank you enough for continually helping Starship to demonstrate the benefits of battery-powered robot deliveries to the world."
