Staff at Morrisons Westcroft raise £500 for children and young people with cancer

Morrisons staff in Westcroft have raised over £500 for CLIC Sargent as part of a ‘Big Virtual Collection’ for customers and staff.

Staff at the Westcroft store got creative with their fundraising and organised a 13 mile sponsored walk to raise money for CLIC Sargent – the UK’s leading charity for young people with cancer and the supermarket’s charity partner.

CLIC Sargent has seen a 60 per cent drop in income with fundraising events cancelled or on hold, due to the pandemic. This means a devastating loss of £8million this year and so a big gap in the income needed to pay for vital services which support the NHS, such as Homes from Home and social worker teams normally based in hospitals.

Amy Bunce, Community Champion at Westcroft store, said: "It was a fantastic day walking such a long distance with my colleagues, we were blown away with the amount of donations and support we received from customers, family and friends.. even people we met whilst on the walk! We found it tough towards the end, but not as tough as what young people battling cancer have to go through, and that is why it is so important to raise the money we have to be able to support a young person and their family going through such a difficult time.

“Our colleagues had a great time taking part in the Big Virtual Collection. We’ve really missed our usual fundraising for our charity partner and so we did all we could to make this a success to help children and young people in our area, and beyond, who are facing cancer right now.”
