A special service for Prince Philip has been broadcast from The Church of Christ the Cornerstone in Milton Keynes today (16/4).
The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will take place at St George's Chapel in Windsor tomorrow afternoon (17/4).
Milton Keynes Council has said that the flags outside the Civic Offices and Station Square will be flying at half-mast until after the funeral.
And prior to the funeral, a special commemoration service has been held in memory of His Royal Highness.
It started at 2 pm and has been broadcast to the community via YouTube, with only a few local figures in attendance due to coronavirus restrictions.
The service was led by the Area Dean for Milton Keynes, Revd. Tim Norrwood, and attended by HM Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire, the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, the Mayor of Milton Keynes and the city MPs – with contributions from other faith communities.
Speaking at the service, Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South, reminisced about the three times that he had met and spoken to Prince Philip.
He explained how one meeting was at an event after being newly elected as an MP, and he attended alongside another MP who had recently had a fall. This MP had to attend the event in a cast, and was very self-conscious, said Iain Stewart.
Iain said that the Duke walked straight up to the injured MP to ask if they were okay, and jokingly said "more tonic this time".
This remark was said to have put the MP at ease.
Iain Stewart MP finished his tribute by saying: "I wish to conclude with just three words: thank you, sir."
