Two lanes have closed between Junction 15 (Northampton) and Junction 14 (Milton Keynes) on the M1 southbound due to a crash between a lorry and two cars.
The accident is reported to have occurred earlier this afternoon at around 4:30pm.
Traffic officers are on the scene to are assisting with recovery.
It is estimated that there are major delays of at least 80 minutes above the average journey time in the area.
It is unknown if anyone was injured as a result of the road traffic collision.
