The Leader of Milton Keynes Council. Cllr Peter Marland, has released a new video update as our city prepares to enter a month-long national lockdown tonight.
From midnight tonight until 2nd December, people will only be allowed to leave their homes for specific reasons, such as education, work or food shopping.
Here are the seven key things we have learnt from Cllr Peter Marland's latest video message:
1. The new rules for Milton Keynes from tomorrow
From tomorrow, you must stay at home, avoid mixing with people you don't live with and work from home unless you're unable to do so. All non-essential retail in Milton Keynes will close as well as pubs, gyms, leisure centres and other entertainment venues.
Schools, colleges and universities will remain open. You can only leave your home for essential reasons such as buying food, exercise or other activities permitted in government guidance.
2. The advice on travel outside Milton Keynes
Cllr Marland has urged people to avoid any non-essential travel outside the city during the lockdown.
3. The support available for the clinically vulnerable
If you fall into the clinically vulnerable group or the extremely clinically vulnerable group, who were shielding, you are being asked to take extra precautions.
Those in the extremely clinically vulnerable group who need essential assistance or support can call 01908 252398.
4. The latest case numbers for Milton Keynes and impact on our Hospital
Cllr Marland says that while Milton Keynes had low figures in the past, around 40 people per day are now testing positive. He added that the number of serious cases in our Hospital is also rising.
5. The new data being released by the Council on infection rates
The case rate in Milton Keynes is currently 108 per 100,000 and Milton Keynes Council will now be releasing this number daily throughout the lockdown via their social media channels.
6. The key aim of the lockdown period for Milton Keynes
Cllr Marland revealed that the main aim of the council during the lockdown period is to get the infection rate, so that Milton Keynes stands the best chance of being placed in a lower tier with fewer restrictions.
He added that this will only be possible if everyone follows the rules, in particular around working from home.
7. The simple advice to stop the spread of coronavirus
Hands - Face - Space. Wash your hands, wear a face covering and stay two metres apart from people you do not live with.
