Pupils at Oakgrove School in Milton Keynes are having to work from home today due to the school site not being 'safe for students or staff'.

UPDATE 3:30PM - Oakgrove School will remain closed tomorrow (12/7).

Around 30 caravans have allegedly made their way over to the secondary school's field.

Over the weekend, residents and parents took to social media to express their concerns after spotting the travellers on the field.

On Saturday, the Oakgrove headteacher, Ian Tett, wrote to parents stating that relevant authorities were involved and the situation was closely being monitored, but there was uncertainty as to whether the school would be able to open today.

Yesterday (10/7), parents and guardians were contacted in an email which stated: “It is with frustration that I must tell you that the secondary site at oaskgrove will not be able to open tomorrow due to unforeseen circumstances.

“The school and Trust has done everything in its legal powers to avoid a school closure, however at the moment the school or site is not safe for students or staff.

Students in year 7,8 and 9 have returned to remote learning for the day.

"We apologise for any conveniences caused, however, we must be able to ensure we can safeguard the students and staff," the school wrote.

It is not known if the school's sports day will be able to take place tomorrow, with the school stating that further updates will be provided.
