Stantonbury International School in Milton Keynes has confirmed that one student has tested positive for COVID-19, and the school will be closing temporarily from today as a precaution.
UPDATE: Stantonbury International School will partially reopen from tomorrow onwards
Pupils have been sent home this afternoon with a letter announcing the temporary closure, stating that a student in Year 8 has tested positive for the virus.
It is believed that parents of children in Year 8 will receive a letter stating that their child has come in close contact with the affected pupil, requesting that their child now self-isolate for 14 days until the 29th September 2020. The letter states that as per Public Health England (PHE) guidance, all other members of their household can continue normal activities so long as their child does not develop symptoms within the 14-day period.
All other parents will receive a separate letter discussing the school's closure stating that a number of teachers will also be self-isolating.
It reads: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school. We have followed the national guidance and, as we have a number of teachers who will need to self-isolate for 14 days, we will need to close school temporarily. If Public Health England guidance allows, we will be able to reopen shortly to some year groups if there are sufficient teachers to re-timetable groups."
The letter proceeds to tell parents what to do if their child develops symptoms of coronavirus, adding that they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appear.
This is the first confirmed case of coronavirus at a local school since all schools reopened last week.
