RSPA Milton Keynes and North Buckinghamshire offer welfare assistance to residents

The RSPCA Milton Keynes and North Buckinghamshire branch offer welfare assistance to owners and are sometimes able to help financially when pets need veterinary care.

The RSPCA Milton Keynes and North Bucks branch launched its welfare assistance programme in response to the community’s increasing need for support with animal welfare. Owners, pets, and animal welfare organisations have all been impacted significantly by the cost-of-living crisis, which has had and continues to have a major impact on animal welfare.

Pets offer companionship and emotional support, both of which are essential for good mental health. Pet owners’ mental health can be severely impacted by financial strain and the possible loss of a cherished pet, which can increase levels of anxiety, depression, and feeling of helplessness. Making tough decisions plays a part in increasing stress that people and families already feel on a daily basis.

As well as part-payment vouchers when owners are need, both the RSPCA MK and North Bucks branch can also offer part-cost neutering vouchers to owners on benefits. Those who wish to apply need to complete their online neutering application form and submit a copy of their proof of benefits.

Eric Vogel, Chair of RSPCA MK and North Bucks told MKFM, “Our initiative is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and well-being of both pets and their owners. For residents, this assistance means access to essential resources such as pet food banks, veterinary care, and advice on animal behaviour. These services are especially beneficial for those facing financial difficulties, ensuring they can continue to care for their pets without compromise.”

With support from the RSPCA, animals receive prompt medical care, proper nutrition, and the chance to find new homes if and when necessary, raising their chances of finding loving and long-term homes, in addition to improving their quality of life substantially.

The RSPCA's neutering voucher offers are reviewed on a case by case basis but generally are as follows:

    • Cats – £100 for a male / £110 for a female
    • Dogs – £75 for a male / £100 for a female
    • Rabbits - £25 for a male / £30 for a female

To qualify for the welfare assistance owners will need to:

    • Live in the Milton Keynes or North Bucks area
    • Be in receipt of income support, housing benefit or pension credit

Eric concluded, “Demand for our services continues to grow significantly, with animal intake and subsequent rehoming numbers increasing again for a further year alongside the continued provision of welfare services to the local community. Overall, financial support for pet owners in need plays a critical role in safeguarding the welfare of animals, supporting families, and maintaining the humane treatment of pets within the community.”

The help provided by the RSPCA MK and North Bucks branch fosters a more sympathetic and caring environment for both people and animals, strengthening the relationship between owners and their pets, and safeguarding their mutual wellbeing.
