Roads remain closed following Milton Keynes fire

Routes near MK Market bridge still shut for repair surveys.

Some roads in central Milton Keynes remain closed after a fire last month which damaged part of the city’s outdoor market.

City council officials are still carrying out inspections and safety works in the area to determine the extent of damage and scale of repairs needed to the nearby Secklow Bridge and other routes.

“They continue to look at the structure of the bridge for damage,” said a council spokeswoman. “We've got closures on until at least 31st January, however we may need to extend this closure date depending on the outcome of the structural assessments and repair works required.”

Bus routes on Lower Ninth Street and Midsummer Boulevard are running again, say the council, with all stops re-opened apart from B4-E4 (westbound) in the Theatre District as work continues there. The taxi rank on Midsummer Boulevard is now open as normal.

“The majority of the stalls at MK Market have re-opened,” added the spokeswoman. “We’d like to thank everyone who has supported the stallholders over the festive period and encourage them to continue this in 2025.
