Residents at Lakeview Lodge Care Home have been enjoying a month-long Staycation.
Lakeview Lodge Care Home in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, has given residents the chance to feel like they are on a month-long holiday.
With travel-based activities, international themed days and even special celebration menus, residents have been able to enjoy reminiscing about their favourite holiday memories and travels to a variety of locations.
Home Manager Claire Hedge, explained: “We want to bring a holiday feel to our care home.Few of us will be jetting off anywhere exotic this year, so we thought we’d bring some holiday vibes to our home.”
Resident's families have even been able to get involved by sending in photos of resident's favourite holiday destinations in the UK or abroad.
During their 'Staycation', residents have been able to enjoy a tropical beach day in the garden with Buck’s fizz and ice creams to keep cool.
They have also enjoyed plenty of activities in the garden including games, building sandcastles and flower arranging.
Wellbeing Coordinator Georgia Morrison said: “We spoke to all the residents about their holidays and how they would like to celebrate our staycation theme. Lots of people mentioned that they missed having trips to the seaside during the lockdown, so we decided to bring the beach to Lakeview Lodge”.
The Staycation month has been a great talking point for residents and staff with reminiscing proven to be beneficial, especially for residents living with dementia.
The initiative has sparked lots of great memories from looking at old photos together, whether with staff or during family visits to the care home.
