Cancer ward gesture a success for kind-hearted benefactors.
It started as a single red rose on Valentine’s Day but now a gesture of support and gratitude could grow into more regular donations from a Milton Keynes private ambulance service.
Acute Ambulance & Medical Services recently visited Milton Keynes Hospital to hand out roses to staff and patients in the cancer ward as a gesture of encouragement and support.
And the Valentine’s Day visit proved such as success that the Stacey Bushes company plan to do it all again, with a different theme.
“It’s the first time we have done this,” Antonio Pecorella, team leader, Acute Ambulance & Medical Services told MKFM. “I saw the idea on TikTok and thought I’d like to do it.
“I chose the cancer unit because there’s a few people at work who have been affected by cancer. It’s one of the biggest diseases to affect people, so I thought it was nice to give back.
“There are a lot of other wards who are deserving too, but I think cancer has got to be one of the worst things to be told you have. And having to go and get chemotherapy on Valentine’s Day is not ideal. So, the idea of making someone’s day a little bit better did it for me.”
Now the Acute Ambulance team are planning future initiatives such as handing out Easter Eggs on the children’s ward and are appealing to local businesses for help if they can offer anything to give away. The Valentine’s Day visit was supported by the Asda store in Bletchley which donated 60 red roses worth £50.
