Red Bull Racing completed day one for pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Joining all nine of the other Formula One teams, Red Bull completed two half-day stints with both of their drivers, four-time World Champion Max Verstappen and newly promoted Liam Lawson.

Lawson took the morning stint, running for 58 laps in the RB21 as the team gathered vital data that can help set up the car for the opening race of the season in Melbourne, Australia.

The New Zealander drove well, bar a minor spin around turn three that he recovered from quickly, and finished P2 in the morning standings with a fastest lap of 1:31.560, 0.132 seconds behind Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

This was good enough for Lawson to finish P8 for the entire day, 1.130 seconds behind the pace setter, McLaren's Lando Norris.

Verstappen took over after the lunch break and ran for 74 laps, demonstrating greater speeds and consistency while finishing the day in P3 with a fastest lap of 1:30.674, 0.244 seconds behind Norris and 0.087 seconds behind Mercedes' George Russell in P2.

Very little can truly be gained from observing testing as teams often try out different settings, run different programs and may even sandbag their cars with weights or fuel loads not representative of what will be present on race days.

However, for both Red Bulls to finish in the top 10 and generally appear comfortable with the new car, which is in effect a modified RB20 from last season, is a positive to take into days two and three.
