Today (2/3), children in MK find out which secondary school they will be starting in September. A record number of applications were received this year with an increase of 129 children.
Milton Keynes Council received 3,830 applications by the 31 October deadline (compared to 3,701 in 2018) with 93% gaining one of their top four preference schools. Overall, there has been a 2% increase in the number of children securing their first preference.
Councillor Zoe Nolan, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “We have never received so many applications but we projected this increase and have been working hard to prepare. We are expanding and developing existing schools whilst planning for the longer term with new schools where appropriate.
“Milton Keynes continues to be a popular choice for families looking to settle in the region. We’re really proud of that fact and will continue to ensure we provide a good school place for every child. We are delighted that the vast majority of our children have landed a preferred choice.”
Of the applications received on time, three out of four pupils (78%) received their first preference school, 8% of pupils received their second preference, 4% received their third preference school and 3% were allocated their fourth preference school.
A small number of late applications have been received which will be processed during April. Parents who still need to make an application should complete a late application form which is available on the council’s website at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/schooladmissions
