Poor quality office conversions BANNED from Milton Keynes city centre

Automatic rights for developers to convert offices into residential units within the Central Business District of the city have been removed.

From 8th October, an ‘Article 4 Direction’ will come into effect which will remove permitted development rights.

This move will mean that applicants will now have to apply for planning permission to convert an office to residential use within the city centre area of Milton Keynes.

The new rules will mean the City Council has more over the quality of homes and to make sure that they comply with relevant Council planning policies.

Central Government have now approved the new Article 4 Direction, following the launch of a consultation last year.

Councillor Pete Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes City Council said: “For too long, offices have been converted into homes that we as a local authority just wouldn’t approve. I’m pleased that we will now have this Direction in place, which will help us ensure that new homes built in Central Milton Keynes are high quality and meet all necessary regulations.”
