Police working on 'policing plan' ahead of global AI Summit in Milton Keynes

Police officers have been talking to local residents following the news that a global AI Summit will be taking place in the city.

Officers in Milton Keynes have been patrolling Bletchley, speaking to residents about plans for the next few weeks after the government announced that a global summit will be taking place at Bletchley Park.

"Since last week's announcement that the global AI Safety summit will be taking place in Bletchley Park in November, we've been out patrolling and speaking with local residents about our plans and what can be expected over the coming weeks," a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said.

"We've had some good conversations covering crime generally and suspicious activity in the area, as well as looking ahead to November."

"Please do give us a wave if you see us, we're always happy to stop for a chat."

Last week, it was announced that Milton Keynes is set to host the world's first ever AI Safety Summit.

The aim of the Summit is to bring together international government representatives, tech company CEOs and researchers to agree safety measures to evaluate and monitor the most significant risks from AI.

The summit is set to take place at the history Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 November 2023.

Thames Valley Police are currently working on the policing plan for the event, which will include any road closures.

The council says it will will be working closely with the police to support the summit and will provide guidance to local people and businesses about the impact of this significant event.

MK City Council says it expects to be able to make an announcement on Thursday 21 September to provide residents with more information and details.
