Thames Valley Police have today issued a warning to the public via social media to be cautious of a sharp increase to bicycle theft in the area.
Police are patrolling the Emerson Valley region after a number of bicycles were reported to be stolen.
This comes after Milton Keynes Central was named the worst place in Britain to leave a bike back in 2016, with over 70 thefts reported in the area. This prompted Thames Valley Police to launch a bike marking initiative last year, with the aim of cracking down on bicycle theft.
In a statement released on Wednesday (20/01), Thames Valley Police gave guidance to cyclists on what they can do to prevent their vehicle from being stolen, as they said: “Please keep your bikes locked and secure if you are leaving them to go into a shop, leave them in a well-lit area and use a high-quality lock.”
If you have any information regarding bike theft in the area, you can contact Thames Valley Police on 101 or report it anonymously online at Crimestoppers.
