Following recent crime trends in Milton Keynes we want to raise your concerns about crime, each night we will be joined by key decision makers and holding them to account.
Tonight (4/4), Matthew Barber, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley Police, tells MKFM in an exclusive interview that the force has seen a "downward trend" over the last 2/3 years in knife crime, with further reductions in the last 12 months.
Matthew Barber tells MKFM that this doesn't "play out" to residents when you see the "horrific incidents that we have seen."
Matthew Barber was elected as Police and Crime Commissioner on 10th May 2021 with a majority of nearly 80,000.
Raised and schooled in Oxfordshire, Matthew Barber lives within the Thames Valley area.
Matthew is Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Thames Valley, covering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire. Elected He served as Deputy PCC from 2017 to 2021, during which time he took on the chairmanship of the Local Criminal Justice Board.
The PCC's role is to hold the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police to account for the performance of the Force, effectively making the police answerable to the communities they serve.
Working as a a representative for the public, the PCCs also has a wider role in promoting community safety and working with criminal justice partners to improve support for victims of crime.
