It is all part of the smart motorway works taking place on the M1 near Milton Keynes.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: "Roadworks affect all journeys which is why it is important they are completed as quickly and safely as possible. Our overnight closures are under constant review and we aim to open the road earlier than the times displayed wherever possible.
