Over £20k raised to support homeless in Milton Keynes

More than £20,000 has been raised for the Milton Keynes Homeless Partnership via ‘Tap to Donate’ machines installed across the city centre.

The donation points, funded by city centre businesses and managed by MyMiltonKeynes Business Improvement District (BID), enable shoppers, diners, employees, and those visiting Milton Keynes to give a donation directly to the city’s homelessness charity simply by tapping their debit cards at one of nine machines.

As of the 7th November 2023, at total of £20,032 had been donated.

MyMiltonKeynes first installed the donation points in six locations in December 2019, and have since added a further three, with points now in place in: Central MK train station, centre:mk (outside M&S), Holiday Inn, John Lewis, Leonardo Hotel, Midsummer Place (outside Leon and Zara) and Xscape.

Milton Keynes Homelessness Partnership is a collaboration between public, private and voluntary organisations working together to end homelessness in Milton Keynes, by delivering affordable housing and support needed to provide homes for good.

Partners include multiple agencies, providing free support for those struggling with issues from mental health to money management.

Jill Farnsworth, Chief Executive of MyMiltonKeynes said, “Reaching this £20K milestone shows that people in Milton Keynes do not see homelessness as a lifestyle choice, and they want to help. By giving money at one of our Tap to Donate machines you can be confident your money is going directly to homelessness prevention services.”
