EXCLUSIVE: Over 17,000 people have been vaccinated at Milton Keynes Hospital

The vaccination rollout is well underway with the Government hoping to vaccinate 15m people by mid-February.

Data published last week revealed that 85% of people over the age of 80 in Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire have received their jab.

This percentage is expected to be even higher when the latest figures are released, as the brand new mass vaccination centre opened at Saxon Court on Monday (8/2).

Numerous GP surgeries across the city are also vaccinating eligible patients, including people over 70 and healthcare workers.

Milton Keynes Hospital has also been busy administering the jabs since the rollout started. The local hospital was one of the first vaccination hubs in the country when it stated offering the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on December 8th 2020.

Since then, it has been announced that over 17,000 people have been vaccinated.

This was revealed by hospital boss Professor Joe Harrison in an MKFM News Special broadcast.

He thanked the "brilliant effort" that has been made by the busy hospital staff and volunteers who have made this possible.

Professor Harrison clarified that those 17,000 people will come back to the hospital for their second dose within the 12 week window that has been suggested by the Government.

He appealed to those who have been vaccinated to "please attend" their second appointment when they are invited.

There has been concern surrounding the supply of the vaccine and whether there will be enough doses for everyone to have a second dose.

But Professor Harrison has said Milton Keynes Hospital is "constantly supplied" with vaccines. He added that he has "no concern" about potential supply issues.

Those who are over the age of 70 and have not yet had their vaccine are being invited to contact the NHS to book an appointment.

The easiest way to do this is through the national booking service which can be accessed here. Alternatively, please call 119 between 7am and 11pm any day of the week.
