Residents advised to keep doors and windows shut after barn fire.
Fire chiefs have told residents and business owners in Olney to keep their doors and windows closed while smoke lingers in the area from a serious barn fire.
The incident, in the town’s Yardley Road area, is generating smoke which, due to current weather conditions, may linger, warn firefighters still on the scene.
A 20 metre by 25 metre open sided barn, containing hay and wood, was well alight when four fire crews, from Broughton, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire arrived to tackle it last night. The fire involved 50 tonnes of hay and had spread to affect a 1,000 litre diesel tank and the barn roof.
Crews established a water shuttle and located a propane cylinder which was removed and relocated to a safe place away from the fire. A caravan, near to the barn, was damaged by heat from the fire, and a cordon was put in place.
Firefighters remained on the scene overnight and will continue to be present through the course of today (Thursday).
