Nutri Troops’ Golden Games to sweep through Milton Keynes this summer

Local 2012 Olympian and Places Leisure has partnered together to bring a new free multi-sport event, Golden Games, to Milton Keynes this summer for children aged 5 –11 years.

Peter Bakare, local 2012 Volleyball Olympian and creator of Nutri Troops and 5 On It Foundation have partnered with Places Leisure to bring a new multi-sport event titled the Golden Games to Milton Keynes for children aged 5 – 11 years.

The event aims to bring the magic of competitive sport to Milton Keynes and inspire young people to take part in healthy competition within a fun and    inclusive setting. Nutri Troops is an educational and activity programme about a power struggle between Nutri Troop characters that promote healthy eating and naughty characters that encourage poor dietary habits.

The programme encourages young minds to learn about the importance of exercise and diet in a way that gets them excited and creates a desire to live healthily.

Sponsored by Places Leisure and with funding from Places Foundation, an independent charitable organisation, the Nutri Troops event will be made up of a series of sport competitions run at primary schools and holiday camps across Milton Keynes during the summer break.

Every participant will receive a Nutri Troops Challenge Pack containing games, activity books and recipes.

To help get young people active and inspired, Nutri Troops Olympians and Professional Athletes have been visiting primary schools in Milton Keynes running Nutri Troops Games Days and talking to students at assemblies about how to get involved and sign up for the free camps.

All children ages 5-11 in MK are invited to the Nutri Troops Golden Games at St Pauls Catholic School on Thursday 8th August for a huge celebratory finals event with a BBQ and cooking lessons from MK Cookery School and Auntie Em’s Kitchen, as well as medals and prizes to be won.

There will be a presentation ceremony hosted by Peter Bakare and every finalist will receive a Nutri Troop T Shirt and Goody Bag.

This free 4-hour camp has limited places so parents/guardians are urged to book their children on soon to avoid disappointment.

The Nutri Troops Team will also be delivering free camps within MK Act’s      Domestic Abuse Refuges in Milton Keynes, for children who are affected by domestic abuse and have had to leave their homes.

Mike Willis, Area Healthy Communities Manager for Places Leisure said, “We are so pleased to bring the magic of sport to Milton Keynes this summer. We are excited to be working with Nutri Troops and 5 On It Foundation to try and evoke behavioural changes which improve the physical and mental wellbeing of children in the city in a fun and inspiring way through characters and athletic role models. “

Peter Bakare is just bursting with excitement at the prospect of launching   Nutri Troops in Milton Keynes saying, “This is a fantastic opportunity for so many children to join in a range of popular sport contests and be inspired to compete, live well and eat healthily”.

He adds “We are incredibly grateful to Places Leisure for being our headline sponsor, they are a fantastic organisation that has over 100 centres across the UK offering active spaces for fitness, sport and health”.
