No 'suspicious circumstances' in The Point fire, police say

Following the reports of a fire breaking out at The Point in Central Milton Keynes circulating social media yesterday (August 9), police have said there appeared to be no 'suspicious circumstances'.

On Thursday, August 8, videos of firefighters approaching The Point in Central Milton Keynes in the early hours of the morning circulated on social media.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) has said that the fire originated from an extractor fan and there did not appear to have been any suspicious circumstances.

TVP Milton Keynes told MKFM, "There are no reports that anybody was injured, and the fire was extinguished by the fire service."

This follows after The Point avoided demolition last month (July 2024), when developers, Galliard Holdings Ltd, proposed replacing the multiplex cinema with flats. Milton Keynes City Council voted unanimously to reject the proposal. In a report, councillors said the proposed plans did not offer an acceptable standard of affordable housing and there was no 'convincing justification of public benefits to outweigh the harm to heritage assets' indicated.
