Residents and schoolchildren on the Lakes Estate will soon be seeing new play areas and green spaces as part of the biggest and greenest regeneration proposals in Milton Keynes.
The parks and green spaces, which have been partly designed by the community, will include outdoor gym equipment and community gardens just off Warren Park.
It is part of Milton Keynes Council's £1m investment in improving the Lakes Estate with better courtyards, green spaces, play areas and improved cycling routes. These works will be completed ahead of new environmentally friendly homes being built for Serpentine Court residents.
Earlier this year, Milton Keynes Council began consulting with residents who have helped design unused green space, play areas and improved cycling routes.
Schoolchildren from Drayton and Water Hall Primary schools have also been involved in sharing their thoughts on the design and themes they want from the four new smaller play areas.
Further improvements to Warren Park are also scheduled to be completed alongside the building of the new community centre and homes.
Other improvements include new redway links connecting the Lakes Estate to Central Bletchley and a new toucan crossing on Drayton Road.
Cllr Emily Darlington, Cabinet Member for Adults, Housing and Healthy Communities, said: “I’d like to thank the residents and in particular the schoolchildren who have helped us with the designs. We are committed to Building Better Communities in MK and our commitment to estate renewal on the Lakes is making a real difference to families and the community. I look forward to seeing these plans come to life in the coming months.”
Revd Steve Hallett, Chair of the Lakes Estate Renewal Forum, added: “It’s really great to see local residents come together and help design the future of their community. These four new play areas and other public spaces enhancements will go a long way in improving people’s lives before the Council starts delivering on the wider regeneration plans for the Lakes Estate."
Planning consent was granted for the major regeneration project in October 2020, which will see some of the country’s most environmentally friendly homes built at the Lakes Estate.
