New Milton Keynes homes ‘not far away’

200 new houses on way in plans to renew Lakes Estate.

A major regeneration project in Bletchley reached an important milestone this week after roofing work on new buildings was completed.

Work started on Milton Keynes City Council’s Serpentine Court development last year where almost 200 new homes will be built in the first phase of the town’s Lakes Estate regeneration, along with a new park and community space. The first of them are set to be handed over to the city council later this spring.

The construction work is being led by developer Graham, whose modern, energy-efficient homes will provide Serpentine Court residents and other local families waiting for a council home with high-quality housing.

The plans are aimed at renewing the Lakes Estate, giving local people a greater sense of belonging and pride in their area and have been shaped by years of collaboration with the local community, who helped design plans that were approved in 2022. Some improvements have already been made, including four new play parks and courtyard upgrades.

The project is being funded by an investment from the city council of almost £70 million, topped up by a grant of just under £15 million from Homes England.

“It was brilliant to visit the Lakes Estate and see the project coming to life,” said Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Ed Hume, who visited the site to see the progress first-hand.

“These new homes will make a real difference, providing families with high-quality housing which will help them in so many ways. We’re not too far away from the first homes being ready and I’m sure the new tenants will be delighted.

“The Lakes Estate has a brilliant community, and I’m incredibly proud of how they’ve worked with us to shape this regeneration.”
